THE LEGENDARY DELLS: AN ANTHOLOGY
Join us for a VIP Press Event at the DuSable Museum of African American History Friday, March 31, 2006
Chicago, IL (BlackNews.com) - The Dells, the legendary R&B vocal group, invites journalists, radio broadcasters, and other media professionals to a VIP Press Event at Chicago's DuSable Museum of African American History on Friday, March 31st from 2-4 pm.
The media will have the opportunity to meet The Dells and learn about their exhibit, The Legendary Dells: An Anthology, currently on display at the museum. The exhibit features vintage records, original photographs, contract facsimiles, song lyrics, and other archival materials. It is curated by designer Darlene Randall and artist Kim J. Watts.
"We are excited about the opportunity to profile what happened behind the scenes, introducing a new way of understanding The Dells and our music. The exhibit will appeal to both new and old audiences," notes Michael McGill, a member of The Dells.
The Dells, of course, need no introduction. For over fifty years, The Dells have continued to set the standard for top-to-bottom male vocal harmony. They remain one of the most powerful and unique vocal groups in the annals of R&B music, working with legendary artists such as Dinah Washington and Ray Charles and producers such as Bobby Miller, Charles Stepney, Kirk Stewart, and Quincy Jones during their career.
They were the inspiration for the 1991 movie The Five Heartbeats, produced by fellow Chicagoan Robert Townsend. A documentary of their story, The Dells: Oh What a Night, recently received an Emmy from the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. They have received numerous awards over the years, including the NAACP Image Award in 1991. The Dells are 2004 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and 2005 inductees into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.
Members of the media should RSVP by March 29th via email to thedells@comcast.net. Please include media affiliation and contact information with the RSVP. For more information, log on to www.themightydells.com

American Idol
Did ya'll see American Idol last night? Was it just me or did none of the girls sound as good as they did before? No one really had me jumping out of my seat hollering, "Go, girl!" They were all just okay. I didn't even vote last night, cause I just wasn't interested. The only thing that really caught my attention was when Simon finally said something to Paula about her just being "an idiot". Sorry, that's my opinion. Anyway, I noticed a few seasons ago that Paula gets upset when Simon and Randy don't agree with her. With Randy, she just shouts over him, when he doesn't agree with her. With Simon, she pulls all on his arm, she shouts over him, and she continuously hits him while he's talking. Last night she was doing that while he was commenting on the second or third girl and he told her to stop and that she was acting like a child and being very irritating. I was like it's about time. That is unnecessay for her to do that when he's talking. After he said that, I think her little feelings were hurt and then she asked Randy to switch seats. Enough is enough! Simon has a right to give his opinion just like she and Randy does. That is what they are paid to do and with her always acting crazy when he doesn't agree, it's about time he put her in her place.
Janice Combs, is that you?

Nope is Barry Bonds impersonating Paula Abdul. Why I dunno, but he sure does look like P. Diddy's H.A.M. mama, Janice.

New Michelle Williams Interview
Michelle Williams was on FOX News Chicago on Monday. She did an interview about being a new owner with the WNBA Chicago Sky and her plans for the future. I capped the video and my guy Saint spilt it up for me. He should be hosting it on his website soon, but until then here's the video and a few picture caps from the interview.

Updates!
Two good movies to check out this week! Madea's Family Reunion & The Seat Filler and a few downloads.

Okay, so I just came from seeing Madea's Family Reunion and I think it was a really good movie. I won't give any spoilers or anything, but everyone should go see it. If you saw the play, then you know most of the story. Tyler Perry is hilarous and he did a good job with the storyline. It was to me a very positive movie for Blacks. That said, that doesn't mean that just because it's an all Black cast that other races wouldn't be interesting in seeing it. I think a lot of people of various ages, races, or backgrounds can relate to or take something from the movie. There was no violence, no sex, nothing ignorant, but just good old humor and a few good messages. The movie stars Tyler Perry, Blair Underwood, Cicley Tyson, Maya Angelou, Lynn Whitfield, Boris Kodjoe, and Jenifer Lewis (just to name a few). Check out some pics from the movie. GO SEE THIS MOVIE, PEOPLE!

The Seat Filler

You can rent or buy this movie on DVD. I really liked this movie. It's a romantic-comedy. It stars Kelly Rowland, Dwayne Martin, Mel B, and DeRay. Again, I won't give any spoliers, but if you love mushy love stories and a little comedy with it, then you'll really like this movie. DeRay and Dwayne make a good comedy team. They were so funny together and DeRay is hilarous. He's such a goofball. I think Kelly did a good job. She didn't have to stretch too much because she's plays a mega popstar, but she was a very convincing in the way she protrayed her character. She was a different person, but still had a little bit of Kelly in her character. Check out these pics from the movie and GO RENT OR BUY THIS MOVIE.

The Grammys

American Idol

Tonight's the first night of the people who made it to Hollywood. This is the first night of them performing together and separately. Check the local listings.
African American Lives
I forgot to post this the first time it came on, but this special is awesome. Everyone should see this. Part one came on already Feb. 1st. This is the second part airing tonight on PBS. Check your local listings.
AFRICAN-AMERICAN LIVES, an unprecedented four-hour series on PBS will take Alex Haley's Roots saga to a whole new level. Hosted by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., W.E.B. Du Bois professor of the Humanities and chair of African and African-American Studies at Harvard University, AFRICAN-AMERICAN LIVES will air February 2006 on PBS. The series will reconstruct the family trees of several prominent African-Americans.

Also, two awesome bloggers are closing shutting down their blogs. Crazy Baby and Sean's Hangout. Crazy Baby has closed already and Sean't Hangout will close on Feb. 11th. Hope everything works out for you two and good luck! That's terrible about that thief stealing all of ya'll downloads. What an asshole? Why can't you find/post your own stuff. Umm, I may be next?!
